Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. There are two main types, acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. Signs and symptoms of pancreatitis include pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. Eighty percent of cases of pancreatitis are caused by alcohol or gallstones.
