background | Mucin 6 (MUC6), also known as gastric mucus, is one of the secreted mucins produced by many different epithelial tissues. MUC6 is frequently expressed in non-neoplastic gastric tissues, especially in pyloric glands. Under physiological conditions, MUC2 is only expressed in normal intestinal mucosa (intestinal type mucus), while MUC5AC and MUC6 are only expressed in normal gastric mucosa (gastric type mucus). Therefore, the combination of these three markers has certain significance in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors. |
