| Background | CD22 is also present in the cytoplasm of most B cells, throughout the majority of B cell developmental stages, excluding plasma cells. It functions as an inhibitory co-receptor in the regulation of B cell receptor signaling and has been reported to participate in B cell activation and adhesion. The cytoplasmic domain of CD22 contains immunoreceptor tyrosine based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs) that recruit phosphatases to attenuate signaling. Upon ligand or antibody engagement, CD22 undergoes rapid internalization, enabling efficient intracellular trafficking and degradation. |
