background | Nestin is a 200kDa class Ⅵ intermediate filament protein that is mainly expressed in early embryonic neuroepithelial stem cells and during tendon and neuromuscular joint development. "Nestin is not specific for the central nervous system because it identifies not only the most primitive neuroepithelium but also other embryonic tissues." Nestin is expressed in almost all glioblastomas and melanomas (primary and metastatic), but it is not expressed in any metastatic carcinoma. |
