Background
HtrA Serine Peptidase 1 (HTRA1) is a serine protease and belongs to the trypsin family. The HTRA1 protein is composed of 480 amino acids and has serine protease activity. It can target various proteins, such as fibronectin and other extracellular matrix proteins, and play a role in extracellular matrix remodeling. Mutations in the HTRA1 gene are associated with autosomal recessive hereditary cerebral arteropathy (CARASIL) accompanied by subcortical infarction and leukoencephalopathy. HTRA1 may play an important role in the process of apoptosis. Its abnormal expression or changes in activity may be related to the occurrence and development of various diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases and cardiovascular diseases. As a potential drug target, it provides new research directions for the treatment of related diseases, such as the development of inhibitors or regulators targeting HTRA1, etc.
